REGGIE HINES - Multiple Instrument Musician/Producer/Composer
February 2, 1968 in South Bronx New York, Reggie Hines was born to captivate the world with the multitude of talents he possesses. As an Instrumentalist, Songwriter, Producer, and Composer; Reggie Hines is a multi-faceted talent playing guitar, piano, bass, EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) and of course, the saxophone.
Reggie Hines comes from a musically entrenched family, Mother and Father Hines both deep-rooted in music and the music industry, introduced Hines to Parliament Funkadelic or P FUNK, James Brown and Miles Davis at an early age. Late in the midnight hours little Reggie would hear mom and dad jamming the night away. Hines love for music then began to take him on a lifelong journey. Attending a prominent performing arts school in the heart of Manhattan, Hines began making friends with various people of multiple elasticities; music paved a way for Hines to cross over into diverse cultural experiences. Hines set his sights on Berkley College of Music in Boston, to pay for school; Hines joined the U.S. Army Band, where he underwent some of the most austere musical training yet. Hines embraced the knowledge of global musical studies in Hindu, Arabic, Japanese and many other cultural origins.
Music is his mistress. As a true lover of the art Salsa, Meringue, Jazz, and Funk, Reggie Hines has spent his entire life becoming the musical alchemist that he is today. The long hours that Hines spent studying the art of music finally began to bear fruit. Hines has written and composed for artist such as Gerald Alston (The Manhattans), Regina Belle and many more. Hines musicology breached the music industry when he masterminded “The Prime of My Life” album for the late songstress, Phyllis Hyman. “I Can’t Take It Anymore” and “When You Get Right Down To It”, attained Grammy nominations for best R&B song of the year. Hines was honored with an ASCAP Award for his skilled musical composition.
Mr. Hines has been able to utilize his gift with other artist including, but not limited to Chaka Khan, and Tru Master just to name a few. Hines worked with Tru Master and The RZA composing the movie score for “Blade Trinity”. That version of the soundtrack did not make it into the movie; however, Mr. Hines did create the full orchestral score for the film, “Like Butta Baby”, as well as “Colors of Rage”. 2002, Hines was featured on the soundtrack of the motion picture film Austin Powers Goldmember.
National recognition came for Mr. Hines a short time later after appearing on ‘The Regis and Kelly Show’, ‘The David Letterman Show’, ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and ‘Tom Joyner’s Sky Show and Cruise’. Hines’ musical genius led to many request for a multitude of global events and festivals. Hines has made appearances in the Montreal Jazz Festival, Bermuda Jazz Festival, Bou Bou’s Jazz Festival in St. Barth’s, Meringue Soul Festival, Sinbad’s Bermuda Cruise Festival, St. Lucia Jazz Festival, Stockholm Jazz Festival, Essence Music Festival, Pori Jazz Festival in Finland, Jamaica Jazz Festival, Atlanta Midtown Music Festival, NV Magazine Awards, Black Enterprise Golf Classic, Vy Higginson’s Blue Note Gospel Tour in Japan, Lou Rawl’s United Negro College Fund Telethon, Miami Soul Beach Festival, the Jack & Jill Foundation and many, many more.
The “Do You See What I See”, CD debut in 2006 made an outstanding impact on the Jazz community only to be followed by the latest and greatest work; in 2009 Hines released the chart topping CD, “Live Your Life”, the return to his musical roots, infusing multiple music genres with Jazz. Hines recently embarked on a journey to the other side of world for the Harlem Nights Tour in Japan. Currently, Hines projects include working with comedian Tommy Davidson, J. Anthony Brown and Craig Robinson (The Office).
